Emmy-winning cinematographer and big-water kayaker Scott Lindgren’s new film Burning Time is a bold new Outside-sponsored production that’s been in the making for two years. In it, Lindgren (of Tsangpo-expedition fame: see Outside‘s July 2002 cover story “Liquid Thunder”) scours the globe with kayaking’s best athletes, seeking out some of the most radical whitewater challenges ever captured on film. Burning Time features epic footage of renowned paddlers like Tsangpo-expedition member Steve Fisher, and pro boaters Andrew Holcomb, Rusty Sage, John Grace, and Shannon Carroll.

In addition to great paddling scenes, look forward to a wave surfing session in New Brunswick with World Freestyle Champion Jay Kincaid, and join Miles Daisher for an adrenaline-crazed demonstration of “skyaking.” Then, venture to Alaska, Argentina, British Columbia, and Elko Nevada’s Ruby Mountains with SLP’s first-ever segment on helicopter skiing, featuring Andrew Sheppard, Eric Hjorleifson, and X-Games gold medalists Zach and Reggie Crist.
For the film’s big finish, watch kayaker Jason Hale set himself on fire and fly over the edge of a 40-foot waterfall.
