What makes a good climbing partner? For some, it’s having similar goals. For others, it’s having someone who can push you to your max. For Allison Vest, a 26-year-old Canadian American climber with multiple Canadian Nationals titles under her belt, and Kyra Condie, a similarly ascendant climber at age 25 who will compete in the first climbing competitions of the Olympic Games this year, it’s both. Vest and Condie met at the right time. In 2016, at a world cup event in Paris, Vest toured the city with Condie and her family, and the two bonded as young female athletes in a male-dominated sport. In spring 2020, Vest and Condie moved in together to train at the USA Climbing Training Center in Salt Lake City and began their biggest adventure yet: their shared TikTok account, @climbingroommates, showing off their relatable personal lives and impressive training routines. Role Models gets up close and personal with the phenoms and shines a light on their supportive friendship.
