Meet Arizona’s Nikki Cooley
By the time Nikki Cooley was in elementary school, she was writing letters to her elected representatives from her home in the tiny Navajo community of Shonto, Arizona, a few hours north of Flagstaff. During college, she became the first Navajo person to earn a coveted Grand Canyon river guide license. Today, as a Diné educator, Cooley works with tribes around Arizona to help them better manage and protect their natural resources.
