Eighteen-time Olympic champion Michael Phelps, the most decorated U.S. swimmer of all time, will compete in the Arena Pro Swim Series, beginning Wednesday in Mesa, Arizona, reports ESPN. It will be the first of five events he is entered in and his first competition following a six-month suspension for drunk driving.Â
Phelps’ suspension, handed down by USA Swimming after his second DUI arrest, ended April 6. He underwent a six-week inpatient rehabilitation program back in October.
Phelps will swim in the 100-meter butterfly on Thursday, the 100-meter backstroke and 400-meter freestyle on Friday, and the 200-meter individual medley and 100-meter free on Saturday. His longtime rival Ryan Lochte is also entered in the same five events.
The 29-year-old was also banned from this summer’s world championships in Russia, but USA Swimming has held informal discussions about allowing him to participate.Â
