A representative of Port Angles delivered banners with thousands of signatures expressing sympathy to the city of Chattanooga in the wake of the July 16 shootings that left four Marines and a Navy sailor dead, according to the Chattanooga Times Free Press.
Leslie Robertson, founder of Revitalize Port Angeles, collected the signatures around her hometown town, at places like City Hall and the YMCA. Originally hoping to fill one banner, she ended up with 20, which she hand-delivered to Chattanooga Mayor Andy Berke on Thursday morning.
The two cities bonded over fierce competition in our Best Towns competition. They squared off in the final round, when over 100,000 votes were cast and Chattanooga prevailed by just a couple of percentage points. Robertson told the Times Free Press that the two towns had become close through the rivalry. “It’s almost like we’re sister cities,” she said.
