Swiss Cyclist Thomas Frei has been banned for doping with EPO, a banned blood booster, according to the AP.

The Swiss Olympic committee said that Frei was caught in March in an out-of-competition test and admitted to doping two other times. Frei must pay US$5,942 in fines and costs, and his suspension will last through April 12, 2012.

The 25-year-old had been with U.S.-backed BMC Racing, prior to which he rode for the Kazakhstan-based Astana squad in the 2007 and 2008 seasons.
