James J. Lee, 43, was killed by police inside Discovery Channel's Maryland headquarters yesterday afternoon, the Washiongton Post reports. Police shot Lee as he pulled a handgun and aimed it at one of his three hostages just before 5 P.M. For the duration of the daylong standoff that preceded his death, Lee appeared to have a makeshift explosive strapped to his torso.

On his website, savetheplanetprotest.com, Lee laid out a list of demands that reads more like a vitriolic Malthusian manifesto. It's represented fairly well by these phrases, which all make appearances: “parasitic human infants,” “FOREST CREATURES!!!!,” “disasterous [sic] Ponzi-Casino economy,” and “of course, the Squirrels.”

None were harmed by Lee, but police continue to investigate two boxes he brought into the building, which they suspect may contain other explosive devices.
