THE SELL: A unique pole design gives you options. THE TEST: Bring all the poles and you’ve got a two-person, freestanding tent that can shoulder heavy wind and snow. Or ditch the two
optional pole segments and you’ve got a partially freestanding tent that’s a half-pound lighter but still sturdy enough for most conditions, thanks to its tight-fitting rain fly. Either way, it’s a roomy abode, with twin brow poles that hoist the sidewalls close to vertical. The tent body has more nylon and less mesh than most, which kept in some warmth (and a bit of condensation) on an autumn Deschutes River float but kept out blowing sand. THE VERDICT: A great tent to own if you can own just one. 5 lbs.
