Italian gear manufacturer Salewa is not very well known in the U.S., but walk through the streets of an European adventure Mecca like Chamonix and you’ll see the brand's winged logo everywhere. Their trail runners and hiking boots, which have been sold in the U.S. since 2010, have been perennial favorites in our Buyer’s Guides. This fall Salewa began selling their apparel at select retailers throughout North America, the largest being Backcountry.com. Here are four pieces we think are worth your money.
Fanes Hooded Insulated Jacket ($220)

Thermoreactive minerals embedded into wool fibers help this midlayer trap precious body heat.
Pedroc Alpha Hooded Shirt ($160)

Mapped materials target different areas of your body to maximize comfort and performance—nylon shell on the chest to cut the wind and gridded fleece on the collar and arms to wick away sweat.
Pedroc Alpha Jacket ($175)

Breathable and water repellant. For fast and light missions in the mountains there’s nothing better.
Pedroc Hybrid Alpha Vest ($130)

Vests are an underrated piece of gear. This one employs Polartec Alpha synthetic insulation to help keep your core warm.
