Super light backcountry gear is definitely in the spotlight at this year’s Outdoor Retailer—a massive gear orgy that takes place annually in Salt Lake City.

And one prime example of this trend is La Sportiva’s new ski, the Vapor Nano, which weighs just over 2.5 pounds in the 180cm length. If the stat alone doesn’t impress you, consider that the average alpine ski weighs more than double that. In fact, the Vapor Nano isn’t much heavier than uber light ski mountaineering, or rando racing, planks.

This is a ski that will fly when you’re skinning up the mountain, and, according to La Sportiva, it does pretty well on the descents too. Made from carbon nanotubes, the ski is both stiff and lightweight. It has a 103mm waist, an aggressive rocker profile in the tip, and a lightly rockered tail.

The Vapor Nano will be available in limited quantities next month.
