This wrist-top GPS manages a knife-edge feat: It’s equal parts cool and geeky. Sporting the X9i, I launched out on a run from my hotel room in downtown Buenos Aires. Within minutes, the 12-channel GPS receiver had locked on to satellites and was displaying my speed and distance. When it was time to turn around, I switched it to Track Back and easily found my hotel—sans map—despite being completely lost. For more serious navigation, the X9i stores 50 routes and 500 waypoints and is compatible with National Geographic’s detailed Topo! digital-image maps.
Bonus: The 3-D compass gives accurate readings when not level.
