- Yellowstone wants to kill 1,000 bison this year to keep overgrazing and transmittable disease at bay. The reduction's part of a 15-year compromise with ranchers, but this year's number marks the highest in eight years. If approved, the animals would go to nearby Native American tribes for slaughter.
