Pack your weekend bag Thursday night so you can hit the road as soon as possible Friday afternoon. And bring along these 12 essentials.
Topo Designs Mountain Pack ($190)
The 21.5-liter Mountain Pack is just big enough for two days away from home, but not so big that it’ll hurt your back as you huff it around city streets or mountain trails. Giant side pockets give you even more storage and easily accommodate a large water bottle, coffee mug, and a pair of Chacos. The outside is made from 1000-denier Cordura fabric. (You can abuse it and never worry.) We love the loud, fun color choices.
Superfeet Men’s Bison Sandals ($60)
Insole maker Superfeet is all about making feet comfortable, so it’s no surprise the company came out swinging with its first pair of flip-flops. A deep heel cup keeps you locked in even while scrambling. The synthetic leather strap is burly but soft enough to prevent chafing. A supportive build makes these sandals comfortable even after several miles on pavement.
Trew BeWild Rain Jacket ($230)
The BeWild weighs a measly 13 ounces and packs down to almost nothing but still provides complete weather protection, thanks to a three-layer waterproof-breathable build. We also dig that it has lots of stretch so you can use it on your bike or during a trail run. And kudos to Trew for designing a rain jacket that looks completely different from everything else out there.
Sunski Foxtails Sunglasses ($60)
Sunski’s Foxtails are fashionable and bomber, plus they cost a third of what you’d pay for a similar pair from a different brand. Polarized lenses make these great for fishing or hanging out on the lake.
Prana Bridger Jean ($90)
We like that these jeans are slim enough to stay out of the way on the bike but aren’t skintight. A little spandex in the fabric makes them stretchy, so you can go bouldering or bust a move on the dance floor.
Patagonia Men’s Merino Lightweight T-Shirt ($70)
If you’re going to live in a single T-shirt for the weekend, make it this one. The merino fights stink, and the plain styling dresses up for dinner in town.
I Heart Keenwah Chocolate Sea Salt Quinoa Clusters ($5)
Energy bars are fine, but we’re glad to change things up with these sweet and savory protein-packed energy balls made from everyone’s favorite quick-cooking grain. Pack some in your bag so you don’t have to stop for fast food on the road.
Nuun Active Tablets ($7)
You’ll want these tablets in your bag for Saturday hikes and Sunday morning hangovers. Throw one in your water bottle—the electrolytes will bring you back to life.
Ursa Major Fantastic Face Wash ($28)
Gas station soap sucks for washing your face, so we always pack a bottle of Ursa Major for cleaning off the grime after a long run or ride. Lemon, rosemary, and spearmint (and more) create a refreshing scent, and the wash leaves us feeling clean but not dried out.
All Good Tea Tree & Basil Deodorant ($9)
All Good forgoes nasty chemicals and instead uses ingredients like arrowroot and tea tree oil to reduce underarm stink. It doesn’t work as well as a conventional deodorant, but that’s fine—just use more and apply more often.
Saxx Blacksheep Boxer Fly ($45)
If you haven’t worn a pair of Saxx underwear, you’re missing out. The front pouch offers more support during exercise, and flat seams prevent chafing. Stretch merino wool cuts down on stink and dries fast if you need to wash your boxers in a bathroom sink.
Monster Wireless SuperSlim In-Ear Sport Headphones ($150)
There are a lot of wireless headphones to choose from, but we like these because they never slip out of our ears. Ever. Run, bike, sleep, you name it—they’re always in. They also sound great with whatever your bumping, from Mos Def to Mozart.
