This was the best multi-day haul pack we tested. In terms of both price and usability, the 3,480-cubic-inch El Lobo hits the sweet spot. “Feels lighter than it is” and “really moves with you” were common tester refrains. Credit the Lobo’s X-shaped chassis and dual-pivot hipbelt, which, as advertised, really do allow the pack to move horizontally with your arm swings as you hike. Two stretchy water-bottle pockets are big enough to stash snacks or a shell, while a “cranial cavity” prevents the pack from rubbing against your neck. The hipbelt is interchangeable, which, along with a simple shoulder-strap height adjustment, allowed testers of every shape and size to quickly dial in the perfect fit. Bonus: The top lid converts to a lumbar pack with its own pared-down hipbelt. 5 lbs; thenorthface.com
