Farid Noori didn’t grow up with a love of cycling, but the palpable joy he now feels for the sport makes it seem like he was born to ride. Noori moved from Afghanistan to the United States in 2010, and though he returned to his home country for a few years in between, he eventually came back to the United States to attend college in Vermont. When Noori found mountain biking, his whole world changed.
Today, Noori is a Specialized Soil Searching Ambassador, as well as the founder of Mountain Bike Afghanistan, a nonprofit that aims to empower Afghan youth through the sport. Noori planned to return to Afghanistan to continue growing the organization when the Taliban retook control of the country earlier this summer. He and Mountain Bike Afghanistan are now helping to evacuate and resettle Afghan cyclists who are in danger of persecution from the Taliban. Watch For the Love of Afghanistan to learn more.
