In this episode of the 101, Bryan Rogala adds a Camp Chef Triton hot-water heater to his Hiker Trailer and demonstrates how to install one on any rig. This inexpensive, DIY project is great for showering and doing dishes, and it will leave you more comfortable at camp.
Here’s a list of materials you’ll need to complete this project:
- Camp Chef Triton Portable hot-water heater $160
- Apache 4800 case (or something similar) $63
- T-nuts and bolts, to attach the case to your trailer
- Hillman 1/4-inch x 20-thread stainless-steel three-prong nut
- Elbow joints
- Threaded Flare x FIP Adapter coupling fitting
- Plumber’s tape (yellow for gas, white for water)
- A garden hose that connects to your source (Rogala’s camper had one)
- A water pump (Rogala likes the Shurflo 2088-554-144 $73), and source (again, the camper had one)
- Butyl tape
Tools:
- Drill
- 1/4- and 3/8-inch drill bits
- Adjustable wrench
